When you’re preparing to install window shutters, one common question that might cross your mind is whether or not you need to remove your existing window treatments.
Whether it’s curtains, drapes, or even special window glass, many homeowners wonder how these elements will interact with their new shutters.
Let’s break it down so you know exactly what to expect when it’s time to install your shutters.
Frosted or tinted glass: No need for removal
One concern homeowners may have is whether frosted or tinted glass affects shutter installation.
The good news?
It doesn’t!
You don’t need to replace or remove frosted or tinted glass before installing shutters.
The installation process is entirely independent of the type of glass in your windows, and you won’t face any issues during or after the shutters are in place.
In fact, if down the road you decide to switch your frosted or tinted glass for a clear view, you can do so without worrying about your shutters.
The window provider will extract and install the new glass from the outside of your home, so there will be no interference with the shutters already installed.
Sheers, curtains, or drapes: It’s up to you
When it comes to sheers, curtains, or drapes, the decision is entirely yours.
While shutters are designed to be beautiful and functional on their own, you may prefer to keep your existing treatments for added decor.
However, many of our clients find that once their shutters are installed, they prefer the clean, elegant look of the shutters by themselves and end up removing the curtains or drapes afterward.
If you’re unsure about whether or not to remove your window treatments, consider leaving them up during the installation to see how everything looks once the shutters are in place.
You can always decide later whether to keep them or take them down.
Handling the removal of window treatments
If you do decide to remove your existing window treatments, before or after shutter installation, keep in mind that Shutters Factory does not offer a removal service for curtains, blinds, or any other treatments.
Most clients handle this themselves, or hire a carpenter or handyman if the removal process is a bit tricky.
It’s worth noting that taking down existing treatments may sometimes result in minor damage to the walls, depending on how they were installed.
This could mean patching up holes or refinishing the wall in some areas.
While this isn’t something we handle, a handyman can often make quick work of it.
What about blinds?
If you have blinds, these will most likely need to be removed to make way for your new shutters.
Unlike curtains or drapes, which can coexist with shutters if desired, blinds block the shutters from being fully functional.
Again, you can handle the removal yourself or hire a professional if you’re unsure about the best way to do this.
Are you ready to enhance your space with shutters?
Shutters Factory is here to make the process as smooth as possible.
Whether you’re installing shutters over frosted glass or deciding what to do with your curtains, you’re in control of how you want your windows to look.
